Hi everyone! My name is Simone and I'm a 28 year old Speech Pathologist from Texas. I've been back and forth between relaxed and natural for about 5 years. I normally (well always) wear weaves! I just never really maintained my natural hair underneath my sew-ins. After a bad experience with a sew-in last April, I decided to take it out and when I did, I found my hair was a tangled mess! Hi curlies! I’m Britt and I’ve been “natural” my whole life. Every time I got my hair done as a little girl, I was met with threats by my grandmother to NEVER put a relaxer in my hair. In elementary school, I was the girl bouncing down the hallway making all types of noise with beads at the end of my braids. Somehow, that made me forget that I was hollering about the hair dryer the night before! I got my hair pressed for the first time in the sixth grade and that became my regular hair style. Hi curly girls I'm Iman. For starters I'm 22. I am currently a college student majoring in Computer Information Systems. Honestly I don't really have a great or fantastic reason for joining the natural community. I just decided one day that I wanted to start the natural process and that's what I did. I have been fully natural for about 2 years now. Initially I started transitioning in Nov. 2014 , but that was definitely a no go for me. So in June of 2015 I spontaneously decided to do the big chop. Doing so was not a hard decision for me because I've had my hair cut super short once before. So I guess I just had the mentality of the song "Let it Go" from the movie Frozen. I can say that on my natural journey I have realized managing my hair has been a much easier process than I thought. Hi my name is Meika. I started transitioning back to natural in Oct 2010. I made the choice simply because I was over my hair growing to a certain length, and eventually breaking off. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. I transitioned for two full years slowly cutting out the relaxed hair. I at that point was still straightening my hair every two weeks but it was growing long and healthy. In the midst of transitioning my stylist, and I noticed my hair was actually pretty curly and coily! Hiiiii Beauties & CURLfriends! My name is Brittany, and some may know me as “BeautywithBJ” on Youtube and Instagram. Let me first start by confessing: while many may have decided to go natural, I was sort of forced to. Forced as in, I didn’t have much of a choice once I experienced a cute protective style gone WRONG and the results were irreversible. [In short: I had Senegalese twists installed. When the stylist installed them she used beeswax AND Spritz in my hair, unbeknownst to me. It was not until I kept them in for about 1.5 months and tried to take them out that I realized my hair had begun to lock and knot in the majority of places around my head]. Hi I'm Bri, I first started going natural in 2011.I was over spending money on perms and visits to the hair salon. I cut my permed hair into a short style and transitioned out of the short style by using protective styling. As my hair got longer I began using heating tools which damaged my hair. I did my second big chop(my current style) myself at the end of 2015 to get rid of the damage. I love my short natural cut but I plan to start growing it out this year. (more…)...

Hey Curly Ladies! My name is Jasmine, and this is my second time going natural. The first time I transitioned for two years. I started in 2012 as what I would call a "straight natural," meaning it wasn't relaxed, but I kept it straightened. I experienced lots of heat damage, and I was unhappy with my ends being straight. After two years, I gave up. I relaxed my hair and wore a short cut. I guess I got sucked in from all the cute short styles I would see on Pinterest. This style was short lived, and after 5 months I decided to do the "Big Chop." This was August 2014, not to mention I was 8 months pregnant. Honestly, what motivated me was wanting to see and experience my true curl pattern. In my opinion, returning natural by doing the "Big Chop," was the BEST decision I've ever made for my hair.
