CURLYFEATURE – MEET Talaya

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Talaya

Hii lovelies! My name is Talaya, and once I went natural, I NEVER went back! Lol. I've been natural for about a year and a half now. I've cut my hair into a pixie style several times now, but it wasn't until my last big chop that I became 100% natural and stopped getting relaxers. I absolutely love all natural hair. I feel that it is so beautiful and brings so much personality to the table! I cut my hair in May of 2015 and let it grow until August of 2016 before I decided to chop it all off again lol. (I do that A LOT) I've always had naturally curly hair, but I've always gotten relaxers, I would dye my hair, bleach my hair, and straighten it like crazy. It wasn't until I realized that my curls were completely fried and stringy and straight that I knew I had to take that plunge into the natural world. Now, with that...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET VIA

Hey! Sounds like something I'd love to support! I guess my #1 rule would be....MOISTURE! When my hair doesn't have the correct amount & type of moisture, it is frizzy, undefined and just a HOTT MESS! I love a nice hydrating shampoo and conditioner duo that doesn't strip my hair. Growing up I always loved seeing beautiful ethnic hair and all of its unique variations, wishing my hair could could be "pretty curly" like theirs as I straightened the life out of my hair..LITERALLY! After years of Heat damage I decided enough is enough. I was going to commit to finding out how to maintain my curls! After watching YouTubers like, glamtwinz and lipstickncurls I decided I was going to cut down on straightening my hair. The more information and techniques I learned about, the more my hair started to revert back to it's natural curl pattern and GROW! And I fall in morr in love with my hair everyday!...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Kiondra

Hey guys, My name is Kiondra and I am obsessed with natural hair! I transitioned for 1 year and have been natural for 3 years now! It has been a JOURNEY to say the least, full of ups and downs, but it has been 100% worth it. I decided to return natural because I had been wearing weaves for a few years in college to protect my hair since I played a sport and was constantly working out without time to properly care for my hair. Once I graduated, I wanted to wear my own hair instead of weave, but I didn't want to go back to the getting perms and risk my hair breaking off or becoming damaged. I was entirely too scared and no where near confident enough to go straight to the big chop, so I decided I would transition until I was ready to chop off the remaining permed ends. During my transition I learned a lot about...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Taegan

My name is Taegan, I have been transitioning for 4 years. I never even knew that I had a curl pattern until I went to college because I wasnt able to go home like I wanted to, to get my relaxers. So, when I saw my hair growing curls, I was amazed. I called my mom and said: "Hey, I have curls!" and she laughed and said "Yeah, you've always had them, but when you were younger, I had no idea what to do with your hair so, I relaxed it.". I was so mad at her - but transitioning was a great learning experience for me, so I wasn't too mad. My hair has always long, but it never grew, it was always the same length, (while relaxed) which frustrated me because I always wanted long straight hair, until the curly roots said "hello" to me! So, since my hair has always been long, I refused to big chop because...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Quinn

Hi, My name is Quinn and i have been natural for almost 4 years. It's been a long journey with trial and error but i have learned a lot about my hair as well. I have a 7 yr old daughter and at the time i just thought about how unhealthy my hair felt. Looking back, i am so happy that i made that decision, just because she watched how i learned to love my hair again. And because of that, she learned to love her hair as well. She's aware of the fact that her hair is way different compared to other girls from her class but she definitely doesn't want any other. The reason why I went BACK natural was because it was so damaged from the hair dye and flat iron that i used everyday. It felt really stringy and thin, i actually wanted to big chop to start all over again. But eventually i didn't and just cut off all...

CURLYFEATURE – Meet Naomi

Hey guys , As a licensed hairstylist, natural hair enthusiast, and a proud curly girl since 2006 with more big chops than I can count, the key to healthy hair in my opinion is "leave-in conditioners". I don't care what kind you use as long as you're using something and it works for YOUR HAIR TYPE. To me they are the foundation that sets all hair styles, enables easier combing to reduce breakage and smooths frizz. It will take some trial and error to find your holy grail, but it is so worth it in the long run for hair health. I also highly recommend liquid spray style heat protectants because they don't cause buildup or add weight. Product ratio's and application order are also important. Know the desired end result so you can add or subtract products from your routine, see how they react to your hair alone and layered with other products. These two things will enable you to have consistent...

CURLYFEATURE – kardeisha provo

To be honest I've been natural my whole life my mom didn't use chemicals in my hair she just would straighten it from time to time. As a kid I always wore my hair in braids or brushed out. What inspires me most to keep up with my curls is some of the older heads I've viewed on YouTube or just social media in general.. I'm all about loving and knowing me. God gave me these curls and I want them to flourish! My main rule: DRINK WATER.. That is crucial to having healthy hair and a healthy life. Other than that I watch what I put into my body and on my hair for it to remain/grown healthy. I try to use all natural products (Shea Moisture is my fav) and I make sure to deep condition each week! To keep my hair moisturized and adding a little shine I like to use combination of oils. This also helps with...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Brittane

Moisture is key when it comes to maintaining my curls. That usually means deep conditioning at least twice a month. Sometimes I'll use store bought, but I love making my own using avocado, eggs, honey, and banana. Occasional water only rinsing in between styles and sealing with coconut oil has also helped keep my hair hydrated.  I had super heat/chemically damaged hair and knew the only way to regrow it was to stop flat ironing and focus on the overall health of my hair. It was not easy, it took a lot of trial and error and hours of watching youtube tutorials to finally get a hang of it. I unknowingly transitioned for about a year slowly cutting off the damage. Once I saw those full, juicy curls I was hooked! I was natural my entire childhood, but as I got to high school I began flat ironing almost daily all through college. Once I graduated college I had a friend give me a box...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Kaitlan Flowers

Deep condition! I haven't had a trim in a year and I definitely believe it's because I deep condition regularly. I was curious to see what my curls looked like. I eventually realized how damaged and unhealthy my hair was so I made a choice to love what God gave me and make sure I paid attention to it. I've technically been natural all my life but I ALWAYS straightened my hair so I never knew that my curls even existed. I had serious heat damage. On top of my heat damage, I tried to go blonde and my hair became BONE STRAIGHT and Oh so dry! It was awful. After a year of trying to grow that out I became frustrated and just chopped it all off. Best decision I've ever made! I grew to love my unadulterated curls and kinks. Now I just do my best to make sure it's healthy! CurlyFeature – Meet Ally Dominique

Heyy! Im Ally Dominique, my main rule I that I use for maintaining my curls are DEEP CONDITIONING! For a while I never saw the importance of deep conditioning until I saw that my growth process started retrogressing. Also, I wasn't paying attention to how often I would moisturize, which also played a large role. What made me go "natural", was that one of best friends had actually convinced me to try it. She'd been natural for about a year when I initially started and it honestly was more of an experiment for myself. I'd always seen pictures of how thick and long my hair was before I started consistently getting perms so I wanted to see if it would've done the same after all these years. Mind you, I started getting perms at the age of 5 and recently stopped at the age of 21. I'd transitioned for about 11 months, and on February 10 2014, I'd cut all of my perm ends...
