CURLYFEATURE – MEET Juliette

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Juliette

Hey Curly Sisters! My name is Juliette and I would love to tell you all about my journey. Since I was about 6 years old, My hair was relaxed. That's 21 years of not knowing my natural texture!!! I always wanted to be natural, but was too scared to actually take the plunge. I let everyone's interpretation of what "beauty" was influence me and I was tired of it. So summer of 2015 I did the big chop and it was the best decision I have ever made. I've never felt so free and so beautiful. (more…)...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Briana

Hey Curlfriends! My name is Bree, and I've been without a relaxer for eight years, but I decided to finally start my natural journey heat-free last year. I've never rocked a short look, so at first I decided to transition. After being frustrated with a line of demarcation between my new growth and heat damage, I decided to big chop in February 2016. Best. Decision. EVER.   I've always had long, relaxed hair since the age of 6. I never knew I had curls! I'm so excited to see so much growth in such short time. When I first cut my hair off, I wore braids, Marley twists, wigs, and lace frontals. I've tried all kinds of styles, because I wasn't ready to wear my TWA. I just got married in September, and the struggle for a wedding hairstyle was real... However, in this day and age, you can have any style you want without even revealing your real tresses. I'm a big product junkie! My...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Crystal

Hey everyone! My name is Crystal Shaw and I transitioned to natural 2x. In fact the first time I began transitioning I didn't know that there was a "natural hair movement" so to speak. I was in college and I was tired of relaxing my hair so I just decided to stop (I'm very spontaneous sometimes). During this time I went on YouTube and came across videos from all of the gurus and was like "Whoa I want my hair to do that!" My mom told me that it wouldn't, and since then  I've spent my time proving her wrong lol. During my first transition I ended up getting one of those "magical keratin  treatments" that is supposed to let you wear your hair straight AND curly *insert sarcasm and side eye here* . To make a long story short, it basically texturized my hair. After realizing what was happening I started to transition ALL the way over again and now I...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET Yolanda

Hello! My name is Yolanda B. I am a Web Design student and Mom. I decided to cut off all of my perm at the beginning of my pregnancy in 2011 due to damage from harsh chemicals however, after my big chop I continued to wear weaves. I pretty much never showed my natural hair and continued to damage it by not caring for it and flat ironing my "leave out" to blend. It was not until recently, about 2 years ago that I decided to go cold turkey and big chop once more. I gave up weaves, my blow dryer, and straight styles. So, I have really only been ACTIVELY natural for 2 years and it has been a wonderful experience.   What motivated me to make the committed transition was that I wanted to feel beautiful on the outside and comfortable with who I was. I was tired of not wanting to leave the house if my weave wasn't done, spending...

CURLYFEATURE – MEET ALEXIS MOORE

My natural hair story. I went natural because there was no other way for me to go... My natural hair journey really began in the summer of 2015 when I decided to go three months with no heat. Even though I was already off the creamy crack for close to ten years; it didn't matter; I was addicted to heat (Wash-blow dry-straighten) so the damage was already done. My no heat challenge was only suppose to last for ninety days. After doing three months so easily I said to myself why not go three more months and I did it. During those six months I did protective styling via wigs. I took my time and watched various videos on how to care for my natural hair. Unfortunately, I had a ton of heat damage in my hair. I decided to put myself on a strict hair care regime. I used the Aphogee Two-Step recovery treatment twice, once in November and once in December of...

CURLYFEATURE – kardeisha provo

To be honest I've been natural my whole life my mom didn't use chemicals in my hair she just would straighten it from time to time. As a kid I always wore my hair in braids or brushed out. What inspires me most to keep up with my curls is some of the older heads I've viewed on YouTube or just social media in general.. I'm all about loving and knowing me. God gave me these curls and I want them to flourish! My main rule: DRINK WATER.. That is crucial to having healthy hair and a healthy life. Other than that I watch what I put into my body and on my hair for it to remain/grown healthy. I try to use all natural products (Shea Moisture is my fav) and I make sure to deep condition each week! To keep my hair moisturized and adding a little shine I like to use combination of oils. This also helps with...
