Hello! My name is Shauna Beni and I am currently a senior at Plattsburgh State University. I am also the President of a natural hair club on campus called K.I.N.K.S (Kollectively Inspiring Naturally Curly Hair Students). My natural hair journey started back in high school during 2013. From the age of 10, I was always getting my hair straightened because I did not know how to appreciate my natural curls. Also because I felt prettier when I was able to look more like my friends and models in the magazines, due to the harsh stigma towards natural hair. My hair had been through endless heat and color damage for a few years so I decided to get back on track with the healthy hair journey. I was not ready for the big chop, so I took it step by step, trimming my ends every three months and completely stopped using dye and minimized the use of heat. Fortunately, I did not have to go through a big chop and was able to regain my natural healthy hair once again. I absolutely love my natural hair and hope to help other women appreciate it more as well!!

My number one rule in maintaining my curls is moisturizing (especially the ends of my hair). I experienced a lot of dryness and breakage in my hair due to lack of moisture and heat damage. As soon I began applying moisturizer to my hair more often and keeping the ends protected in satin bonnets, I began to see the difference. My favorite moisturizer is the CURLS Blueberry Bliss Twist N Shout cream paired with Eco Styler Gel, it adds the perfect amount of moisture and gives great definition to my braid outs and flexi rod sets. Heatless styling has become my holy grail and it lasts for a good amount of time. Thanks to platforms such as Youtube, I was able to try out and learn all different hairstyles until I found the right style for my texture. I hope this helps!
