My number 1 rule in maintaining my curls is CONSISTENCY. I have a very strict routine that I have been sticking to for years and it helped my hair to be what it is today.

What fueled my passion to go natural was the health of my hair. When I was a kid I always had long thick hair but going to school in a time where natural hair wasn’t accepted was tough and so I begged my mom to give me a relaxer. She always said no but she finally gave in when I was 15 years old. Initially my hair was so nice and long and I thought it was healthy. But eventually my hair started to break and get damaged. After realizing that my hair was extremely unhealthy I decided to just go natural. One summer I just told my sister to chop it off.

I was met with lots of criticism from my friends and family who were so used to my hair being straight. Many people thought I wouldn’t look good natural. However, thank God I’m very confident in who I am as a person so I didnt listen to them. Now I am so grateful for going natural. My hair is the healthiest it has ever been and it’s even longer then it was when I was a kid!

My advice to those of you who are thinking of going natural but aren’t really sure, listen to your instincts and just do it! It is hard at first because you are trying to figure out what is best for YOUR hair but once you get that down stick to it and I promise it will be totally worth it!
